You Are Wasting Your Time!
Regular, old fashioned snail mail exponentially out pulls email. And, now-a-days, most of your emailed newsletters are picked up as spam and never even get through…which means they don’t get read. You may think it is still worth it because it is free. Well, it’s NOT free. There is always the opportunity cost of the clients you are loosing because it wasn’t done the right way. And in a little bit, I’m gonna tell you how your newsletter doesn’t take you or your staff any time or effort.
Ok, back to writing your newsletters as a true direct response piece. Your newsletter must have compelling headlines and irresistible stories. It must be written to suck the reader in and force them to make an emotional connection with you. This is a very subtle skill that takes years for professional copywriters to master.
A good newsletter will give them what they want and like to read, make them excited to get it and read it every month…and most importantly…
It Makes Them Respond!
That’s the third part in the correct newsletter formula: Making the reader act…and act right now! This is done, very skillfully and subtly, throughout the entire newsletter…and…more obviously (and more effectively) through the use of full page inserts and/or cover letters. Newsletters missing a skillful sales pitch are nothing more than a waste of paper, ink and stamps.
That’s the equivalent of an ad that doesn’t make your phone ring OR generate any other response.
If a newsletter doesn’t get a prospect or client to either pick up the phone and call you…or…refer someone…within a reasonable amount of time, it is absolutely worthless.
And, don’t let some slick sales rep con you by saying their newsletter will “get your name out there” which will eventually lead to name recognition and clients. I’ve said it time and time again in my Mortgage Marketing System, on tele-classes and at all my BootCamps ― their so-called name recognition is completely worthless. Try and deposit some name recognition in the bank and see what happens.
What they are REALLY saying is, “We have no idea how to track responses and we wouldn’t want to even if we could because we could no longer fool you if you had proof it doesn’t work!”
Bottom line : You want to send out a newsletter and IMMEDIATELY have your phones ring and your website sizzle. No sense in wasting your time if it doesn’t.
Now, let’s get this straight. I’m not talking about magic. I’m talking about the best, tested and proven marketing strategy to shorten that gap and make your clients (and leads) emotionally bond with you and pay more, stay forever and refer.
